Jim, you’re right, I wont have to borrow yours anymore, although I’ll be hard pressed to have mine nearly as quick as yours!

Marc, I think it can be just as quick, since it has the same motor as Tom's Corvette and my White Corvette have.

don't get too excited, these Revell stockers were, to put it nicely, real shelf queens. What's underneath is pure c__p! Just to start, pull a tire off (wrong size tires, btw) and take a look at the pure funky wheels. I guess I'm bitter having been sucked into buying these now those many years ago based on their eye-candy, and the fact that previous Revell cars had been pretty nice. I regret owning them. Jim can and does work wonders with these kinds of cars, whereas I just don't see it being worth it. Hey, I'd rather scratchbuild and get it right from the start!! Steve

Yes, i paid a bit for this eye candy (!) but i dont mind because it’ll either have a 3D chassis under it or a brass one, thanks to Mark.

Merry Christmas to everyone!
I have time today to put out some information on tools/materials that many of you probably already own a portion of. Each of these are topics that I will flesh out with information on each so we can all start working through them.
This is a high level list and if there is something you dont own that is a big ticket item.... buddy up with someone and dont let it discourage you. This is just the start and I will add more items.
I will be providing sources for items to make it easier to purchase what you need. When I can point you toward the slot car track in Arvada CO or Colpar I will. Its best to spend money there when we can to keep them in business.
• Soldering Iron • Silver bearing solder – Stay Bright is great • Acid Flux • Needle Point bottle – For applying the flux • Ceramic block • Measurement • Jewelers files • Files – 6” Bastard and up • Metal punch – for punching holes in various sizes • Drill Press • Hand Drill • Vise or Jewelers Vise • Hobby Lathe • Belt Sander • Bandsaw/Saws • Sheet Metal Brake • Center punch • Layout fluid • Tumbler • Chemicals/Cleaners

I just seen the list of equipment for the scratch-building. I have a start on the list, I have an item, the needle point bottle for the flux. Thanks to Daryl for the bottles, a few years ago he made a wooden holder for the bottles and q-tips. I may have something also for measurement, I have some string left over when I "measured" my track length. I couldn't figure how to use my 100-yard roller wheel to measure the track. My balance is not good when standing on the track table. I will have to wait and see on some of the other tools and parts to get a few more items. I guess I should have asked my Dad a few more questions when I was younger. He was a Machinist as well as metal fabricator. I only got to clean the parts and hold the flashlight for him. My Dad and brother were the smart ones, I was the other one.

I have a feeling my past work with soldering may get me in trouble. I go by the moto; The bigger the blob the better the job. After I attempt to solder, I have never felt the need to add weight to a car.

I use a Weller TC202 60 watt iron that i got from eBay, under $50. Ive used this type of Weller iron since my electronic technician days in the 1970s! Great soldering iron. That list of tools is incredible. Will have to share with others as I dont have room for some of those bigger items, metal break, bandsaw, lathe… What’s a ceramic block? When you say “measurement” what exactly are your referring to? Calipers? Im sure more questions will come but this is good!

Mark M,
That is a list of tools, but I am close to all but a bandsaw at home. I was thinking tabletop 8", but if needed have 14" and 20" at the shop.
Others up north we can share my work area and tools.
I have several Unger, Hakko and Weller Solder Stations happily to loan out as needed.
Like Marc G wondering about the ceramic stone but thinking flat work surface.

Since I am the last one to ask about scratch building, I think the ceramic block could be a "fixture" that you would put in "pins" to hold the brass as you build the chassis. If it is, on Slot Car Corner's website, they have one and the pins. It is listed under tools as a chassis jig. This one is made of ceramic, so when you solder, the board will absorb the heat and you may not burn the house down.

Ceramic board, pins, silver solder and 9" band saw purchased. Need a few metal cutting blades but ready to start. 😁
