Do we want to start thinking about what to run next season?? Let's maybe put some ideas out there and I could start a poll. I think the whole club should have a say in what we run next year. Tom

I would like to see a procedural change, esp. in the "true vintage" class. Similar to what we did a couple years ago with Cartrix, a spec. tire and wheel should be used by all. The wheel (or wheels to accomodate brands)should be a vintage wheel from the 60's or whatever, and everyone should run the same tire, for ex. EJ's #15 which fits many wheels. This would be in the spirit of the club's founding. These could either be impounded between races as we did before, or the car inspected carefully for such before the race. Those who still want to go crazy with all the modern stuff, well, we can still have "unlimited/builder's" races.

Good ideas Steve but it might be hard to have a spec wheel depending on what the class is. For classes, my suggestions are: Cartrix '50s F1, builders class with H&R 18k spec motor, stock upper and lower body parts; lower class SCCA production cars (D,E, F, G, etc.) vintage class--open cockpit lexan bodied cars, 1960s sports. All of my Vintage cars have come from Ebay or David A. I have found that getting most parts is not that easy. Trying to find replacement guides is the hardest, there are not many to be found. Because of the rules, I have gone to EJ's to get replacement wheels, Strombecker plastic wheels don't last forever. EJ's #16 tires have worked great on the Vintage F-1 Monogram wheel, EJ's also makes a replacement wheel. Super Tires makes a Vintage replacement tire that will fit this same, Monogram or EJ's wide, wheel; the only thing is I don't use this tire on the open wheel cars because of the flat side of the tires. The Super Tire is (V-100).
I use the brass chassis for my Strombecker 3 pin cars, which comes with the wide wheels; some were plastic, others aluminum. I use both brass chassis' for my Monogram cars, depending on the motor used, 16 or 16D, some have come with the same wide wheel as on the F-1 cars. On my AMT cars, the brass chassis cars have come with a wide wheel with sponge tires. To get these cars, AMT, to pass tech I have changed the wheels to the wide Revell wheel, it is taller than the other companies wheels. My Cox cars have come with wide wheels on them also. My Revell cars that have a "series 2" chassis, 16D motor, all use the wider wheels, on my cars.

I have used some different tires on my Vintage cars.
Super Tires V-100 ; silicone and urethane; fits wide wheels EJ's #15 narrow tire fits Revell standard wheel EJ's #16 wide tire, rubber, fits; Revell wide wheel, Strombecker wide wheel, Monogram wide (F-1) wheel, Cox wide wheels and Auto Hobbies wide wheel. The style of the tire is the old pie pan tire. Tiny motors tires were made of silicone and were slightly over size; used on Revell, K&B or Dynamic wheels Paul Gage tires are made in different sizes to fit all Vintage cars, urethane tire, I use these tires on the front of my cars. He makes a mid size tire that works good for a little more ground clearance. Bosa tires are made of Urethane, looks like the EJ's #16 tire, but it is poured, so the back side will look "unfinished". Also makes many sizes of tires. AJ's - a 1960's tire and wheel combo - works very good - most of them had to trued to get out the "flat spots" from sitting
There are other tires out there, but these are the main tires I use on my "racing" cars. I have a couple sets of tires that were poured from silicone and are repro's of Atlas tires. Can't get them anymore. Ortmann and Indy grip tires are a couple tires that I used also.

I thought we were all set for the upcoming season with Ford vs Ferrari, 70-78 formula 1 and the mini cars. I'm flexible so if we need to go through voting and a bunch of new classes I can go along with that.

Oh, well, I didn't know that Dave. but it sounds OK to me. How about some class rules so we can get started preparing our cars? Tom

I went back and looked at comments made on the FORUM from a year ago . . . 25 Jun 2017: Daryl suggested Ford vs Ferrari at LeMans (1963 - 1969). 1 Jul 2017: Tom liked Daryl's suggestion.
I recall that Daryl and Jim W were disappointed that the F1 class last year was limited to 1965 - 1969. It prevented both of them from campaigning their early '70s F1 cars that they wanted to race. At that time it was suggested that we include a class for the 2018 - 2019 season that featured 1970 - 1975 (or 1978) F1 cars. Daryl and Jim W have waited a year to run their cars, I say let's let them do so.
And I think we've all invested in Tim McQ's mini-car class for this coming race season. (Those are three (3) classes that I think I would enjoy running for 2018 - 2019.)

I'm assuming the Ford VS Ferrari class is the true vintage class?? If so, then it will be very similiar to what we ran last year with 1960's prototypes. I suggest expanding it to include all 1963-69 Lemans cars. That will open up the field a lot. Just a thought. Tom

I'm assuming the Ford VS Ferrari class is the true vintage class? Tom I hope Ford vs Ferrari is NOT the vintage class. I want to run my "Le Mans Ford GT40 Mark I" that I purchased from Colpar Hobbies, over a year ago. Doug L.
