this show's season premiere is tonight on the History channel, and will apparently include a visit to Bernard Sampson's slot collection/museum in Texas. When it comes to collecting, well, "you ain't seen nothing yet" when it comes to Bernard's.

Yes, I did see the episode. I didn't realize that electric slot cars were available in the 1930s.

actually, at least as far back as 1912 when Lionel produced a set with a couple of large Mercer raceabout-type cars. They were die-cast metal and designed mainly as accessory to their trains, so no rehostats; just "on-off" for circulating an oval. Quite the collector's item (I believe Bernard showed one in the clip), in I believe the mid-90's Lionel marketed a reproduction set as a commemorative! I seem to remember the retail was close to $900 !! Oh well. S
