If you all are wondering why no pics, it's because in many respects I have still not entered the digital age. The vintage Revell track is 34' of 2 lane on 2 4x8 sheets that can be folded together into a "box" for storage in my garage, where it rests against the wall most of the year. It was built in 1987 and has all scenery. I would do it all different today, but with our housing constraints it seems right to just stick with this. If any of you are by on a 3 day holiday like Labor day, bring a digital cam and we can post some pics. Steve

Steve - one of the photos of your layout show a GT40 sans top. Who is the manufacturer of that GT40?

Doug, a very good question! That is actually a vintage Strombecker; their version of a Mk. I. In that series of slotcars, they molded the tops separately from the body, don't ask me why! The Cobra Cp. is the same way. Anyway, I came across this many years ago, all boogered up in a box. The top and it's glued in glass were shot and unrestorable, so I decided to turn it into a roadster. Yeah I know, the only roadster was a Mk. II; I have a poster of it in my garage winning the Sebring 12 hour, driven by Ruby/Miles. So this slot is a fantasy car. I formed a new windshield by heating some clear plastic sheet over a flame and then drawing it over the old piece and then trimming to fit. Since then, I have also collected a much nicer Strombecker with the roof/glass intact. Later, they went to a one piece body and a shape more like the Cox; a Mk. II. Compared to the modern Scalex/Fly versions, they are just nowhere! But I do like running them around, since both of mine are equipped with the optional "grain of wheat" lights! Boy I wish Scalex or someone would do that roadster!

Steve Now you can see your pics without having to click on them. I was bored and needed something to do.

Hi Steve, I'm sure by now you know that Herb sent in the photos. I actually took those photos at your Memorial Day open house a few years ago and sent them to Herb to post on the old FRVSCC website. Glad to see them reappear here. Herb did omit one of the best ones though. I will post it as soon a I figure out how to get it to this sight. Denny W

Steve - I had a Strombecker GT40 MK1 (40 yrs ago) which I ran on my Strombecker track. I always liked the lines of the MK1 better than the GT40s that came later. (I'll keep looking on eBay.com for one I can call my own.)

If anyone is interested, I will have this track and another small loop set up this weekend, Memorial day. Fred and George are coming by Sat. afternoon, but you are welcome to come by (N. Arvada) almost any time if you give me a call first. And the vintage display is now pushing 200 cars! 303-940-8743 Steve

A lot has happened since 5/24/07 of the last post. But sometimes things come around. After languishing in the garage of our new house the last 2 years, all folded up mind you, my new son-in-law helped me wrestle it into our basement a couple weeks ago! Got it set up, have been doing minor repairs, and running around my cars for the first time in 3 years. And I'm building/restoring again since getting a proper bench set up. Yeah!

thanks, and welcome! Been running on this plastic 52 years now; pretty durable product! Even the layout is old now; 30 years, same age as my youngest daughter. Steve
