A few of us up north have been talking about oval racing. In doing some talking we have found what appears to be enough Carerra Track to do a 4 lane 6' x 12' which can be set up on my pool table on a temporary basis. Trying to gauge the interest in this type of racing?

Will the entire track be banked? Or just the corners? Will track be limited to Carrera NASCAR cars?

Doug / Tom
Track will be 2/30 and 3/30 Carrera Bank Sections. Still need 6 more 3/30 and 24 straight sections to make the track. As to the bank on the straights, I think they will flatten out but maybe not fully flat.
Conversation was to do NASCAR and maybe IRL There was also some talk about using magnets. Marc G and myself ran some Carrera NASCAR's on my road track with magnets and had fun with Superbirds. Ran all 4 lanes and we were less than 5ft apart after the run.
If anyone has some track I can borrow, I would love to get it. I am going to purchase a light bridge and sensor cable, but use all the other stuff I have at this point.

With the banking that Carrera does with their track, the straights will have some banking most of the way down the track. I would guess that only 1/3rd of the straight may be "flat". On my old 4-lane track that had banked curves, it used Styrofoam cut in wedges to support the track instead of the Carrera adjustable support poles. I have some wedges that I will bring to Mark's to show him what may work on a banked track. The track will need the support when all of the cars are almost flying in the corners. With four Carrera cars in a turn at the same time, that is a movable 1 pound going around a track at speed.

I have some Monogram NASCAR cars with double magnets just like what Carrera also uses, that is double magnets. The Monogram car in my Avitar doesn't use the magnets since it is using a Slot.it HRS 2 chassis with an anglewinder motor pod.

One other thing you may look at getting is straight borders for at least a couple sections of the straight track after the banked corners. I don't think Doug will mind them on a track.

Thanks for the input on the oval track. Jim, I was thinking about a solid tapered block to support the track at all locations. The border, guardrail, catch fence will be required, but will work on that after the track is up. Any parts and supports are appreciated. I might have the track prior to the race Saturday, but will not take the table down prior, as we need the pit space. But after the race I may get the table set up done prior to getting the second knee replaced. Never know what I might get done during the Christmas / New Year's break.
I ordered the 3/30 corner and all the straights from Electric Dreams this past weekend. I also ordered the Infared Light and the sensors with cable from Trackmate.

Doug, it does! Ran a 1.6s lap with a Daytona prototype, no mag stock with silicons.

I had Marc and Chris up this past weekend to do some actuall racing on the oval. We ran Carrarea 70's NASCAR, 80's Scalextric NASCAR, Pioneer Legends and a plethora of other cars. Figured out 1min on each lane equates to 25 to 30 laps, this is running 12.5 volts where most cars you have to lift going into turn #1 and #3. This is based on no magnets and silicone tires. We did also check on weight, and looks like we might have to put some weights limits on the cars. I am looking to do another Saturday in May. Let me know if anyone is interested and what day would work. Here is the current picture of the track. Oh, I do need to add two track buttons. Attachments:
