I wonder if that is the old track that I "raced" at in 1969? Looks like Grand Turismo Racing from Westminster. My brother, Ron, always qualified first or second, so he ran the center lanes. I qualified 8th, so I would get the "gutter" lane!!! I see I haven't improved in all these years.

I will be waiting for my stool by the black lane.

Whaaaaat? That is too cool!!! When can we come check it out? Can't wait!
PS: It's your track so I am not going to tell you how to run it but all of the other guy's (Blaine, Rick and Bryan at least) have gone away from foam tires and glue. We run silicone tires on a clean track and it works great.

I think it's Straight Line Speedway and this is at the new location. I've run commercial tracks with hardbodies before. It can be painful at times. Those hard borders are unforgiving.

That is a nice looking "King." Is it an old track that has been refurbished or a new build? Hard to say how many great tracks still exist in dusty old barns and storage buildings. There was a really different commercial track in Laramie. It was up as late as 10 years ago in a hobby shop there. It was in the back room with no heat, or cooling (depending on the season). The thing I remember about it was that the main straight was a double-decker. When Rex put the commercial track back together in Greeley, he found it in a barn in Lucerne (Colorado, not Switzerland). As I recall there was also a second track their that he did not take. In Scottsbluff, circa approx 1965, the building, now the elks club, had three commercial tracks in the basement. I distinctly remember an old gentleman telling me he would ride his bike there every day with his slot car box in his wire basket. One day he rode there and just found a "closed" sign on the door. I have talked to quite a few people that remember the track, but still no one knows what happened to it.

Looking forward to a Slot Car outing. Maybe we can have both clubs meet up?

Blue King tracks are usually set up for wing cars and world championship type races, but can be used for almost any slot car type, but they are usually glued. If they don't do that, or are willing to remove the glue before we raced on it , it would be OK. Our 1/32 cars wouldn't do well on a glued track and especially with our vintage cars, we wouldn't want to damage them either by crashing or by getting glue in them. On that track, (155') we would see some pretty high speeds and crashes could do some pretty major damage to cars. I'm not tryhing to be negative here, just pointing out some things we should be wary about. Tom

Yes, that is the track (or at least the same model). It looks a lot nicer there than it did in the back end of the Laramie hobby shop. And yes, glued tracks do not treat our 1/32 cars very well. I tried one of mine at a track in New York (Buzz-a-rama). I also took a Parma 1/32 commercial. Did not work well at all until i got the tires treated. By the way the record lap on a Blue King has now gone below the 2 second mark. Really not all that much fun to drive.

By the way the record lap on a Blue King has now gone below the 2 second mark. Really? That quick? That would be a LOT of laps in a three minute heat race. I am guessing the car is nothing but a blur as it speeds around the track. Doug L.

I think that track may have been a Hillclimb track. Tom I remember racing on an identical "2-decker" track like that one at a shop in Albany, Oregon, mid-1960s. I was running a Cox Chaparral and an AMT McLaren Elva. Both cars were 1:24 scale. Doug L.

I was in the Denver area today, so I headed west and stopped in at Straight Line Speedway, 5161 Ward Road, Wheat Ridge, CO. (Bye the bye, this shop sits in the middle of an industrial park and cannot be seen from Ward Road.) I spoke with owner Lance (303-883-6806) and learned that he hopes to have the 8-lane track up and running by the third weekend in February. He said 1:32 scale slot cars will be welcome on his track. Lance has also purchased an 8-lane tri-oval track that he will be installing in the near future. Lance also said he will be changing the name of his shop to " RJ's Raceway & Hobbies" in honor of his father. There were at least four guys working on the track, when I visited; painting, laying down brass braid.Doug L.
