I assume specs are specified after the classes are picked? What are Carrera Classics?

I assume specs are specified after the classes are picked? What are Carrera Classics? Yes they are. Carrera classics are Cobras, Cheetahs, 1965 Corvettes, Mercedes 300 SLR, 1966/1967 Mustang, 1969 Camaros. That's allI can think of at the moment. Tom

On the 60's TransAm, what chassis are we considering? Are there any better options than others?
Since I am new to 1/32 slot cars almost everything will be a purchase or build for me. Not an issue as I am enjoying the search and really like the build.

I assumed that 3 pin Strombecker is "true vintage" so voted accordingly S

Not an issue as I am enjoying the search and really like the build. I wouldn't be against doing the same thing as we did in the RMSCC. We opened the rules to allow another chassis, such as a 3D printed chassis and allowed other modifications to help "equalize" these cars. Some have different gearing and larger motors from the factory. It all started with wanting to try using a lightweight interior. So, we allowed motor change, wheels, gears, axles, bushing, guides, chassis and the lightweight interior. The Trans Am cars with all of these mods allowed me to have a SCX Cuda, a Scalextric Javelin and a Scalextric Dodge Challenger cars that could be raced with the other cars. The Pioneer Mustang was no longer the only "fast" car. Jim W The Scalextric Camaros, 69 and 70's, were popular cars for most guys. My SCX Cuda was a very good car for me, after the mods. I think I made Dan proud. (I do have a few stock Trans Am cars also)

sounds like what we would call "unlimited". Much like we did a few years ago with sports endurance cars: I totally rebuilt my Fly Gulf 917's to try to keep up. When the SCX Cuda was new, I raced it in our trans am class but found that changes were limited by the funky motor to guide "hard wire" arrangement, so I couldn't just drop in a new motor like I had done previously with their Tyrrell 6 wheel. Tom Thanks for that update, as I have a Lotus 30 that is done with 3 screws. So changed my vote.

The Trans Am class should be 1966-1976, not 60's. Tom

I should make a few informative comments about Strombecker. After producing (and successfully selling) more "toyish" offerings in the early 60's, the competitive developments of that era demanded something more. Strombecker introduced this "3 pin" mounting geometry with a new line of "competition" cars in about 1965-66; as kits, they came with a stamped brass 2-pc adjustable frame, the new tc-32 can motor (distinguished by a blue endbell, chrome can, and side-mounted cylindrical brushes held in place by a spring-loaded "cap", not a Mabuchi), and upgraded components like 5-40 aluminum wheels. Though the overall model was quite heavy (by later standards) it performed and handled well: probably the high point of their designs. But then things went downhill fast: next in line for these kits was an aluminum "sandwich" style frame, designed to mount the cheaper Igarashi open frame motors that were probably leftover from their previous lines. Real trash, not even rear axle bearings. But still maintaining that 3-point mounting for all the bodies they had injected. In about 67-68 they decided to mainly go RTR, including introducing some bodies that remain unique to this day. Working with the mfg, they got the TC motor "shortened" to fit into a combination nylon and stamped aluminum 2-pc frame. Performance wise, barely a step up from the last but with a couple things going for it: independent front wheel mounts, and that motor. And of course, that 3-pin mounting. The tires were also a downfall, and in the 21st century this can be hard to overcome as I think only folks like Paul Gage now reproduce these in urethane In retrospect their commitment to the 3-pin makes it nice, as you can fit the previous frames into these newer bodies. All this being said as to inform some of you newer members of the work that will need to be done to drive this class car. In later years, EJ's repro'd the 2 pc. brass frame; he may still have these, and they occasionally come up on ebay. For those of you who like punishment, I could probably supply the alu sandwich to you. They are plentiful, and found on most Strommie cars listed on ebay. Some jokers actually offer these for big money separately!! Hope this helps Steve
