this thought only came to me in the middle of the night (as many of mine do!). Old Vanquish cars are "not allowed" because they are "too big". However, a much too wide (out of scale) and grossly misshapen Thunderslot is allowed. I don't have one, but would guess it's width closely approaches that of my Vanquish Shadow, which at least is consistent in it's proportions to the actual car. I would guess we allow them because they are faster. All kind of odd to me, esp. in an "unlimited" class.

I have looked at a few different cars that are Can AM cars. Monogram, Slot.it, Thunderslot and Old Vanquish. If I can get the photos to work now. Jim W Vanquish McLaren M8D, Slot.it McLaren M8D, Thunderslot McLaren M6A, Monogram M6A and Vanquish M8D

When the rules were published there was not any mention of including Vanquish cars. While I was the one editing the rules, I had looked at previous years rules, which had written in them of not including Vanquish cars because of their size difference. I weighed the Vanquish cars and they are 100 grams and use a FF motor in them. With our rules set to 25k RPM, I don't see a Vanquish car being able to keep up with Carrera car not alone with a Slot.it car, 59 grams, that weighs close to half the weight of a Vanquish car. Yes, we all know that Slot.it and Thunderslot are over scale, but these are the cars that are being produced and are available for us to obtain now.

thanks for the pic, Jim, it really illustrates the size discrepancies between brands. As you can guess, the Monogram is my favorite: they made the effort to contain the width by going to an anglewinder arrangement. This I think after their over-wide but still attractive Lola t70 sidewinder car. I don't think the stock motor in the Vanquish is the ubiquitous FF; it was some other generic mule that as you say was underpowered. Even then I was not satisfied with it, so rebuilt my Shadow with a much hotter Scaleauto motor and a solid rear axle to handle it. It was interesting being around the can-am a bit in the day, and much more in more recent years at vintage events, and most commonly Harry Mathews' former collection. Watching the evolution in McLaren cars alone was quite shocking. Wide, wider, widest! When I first saw the M12 I thought: how are they going to get that thing through turn 6 at Riverside?

Hi guy's. After some reflection and at the risk of unilateral dis-armament I have "de-tuned" my Thunderslot M6B by replacing the Piranha 25k motor with a more suitable NSR 25k. It was my first experience with the Piranha and I noticed a magnetic down force effect as compared to other motors I have tried. I don't detect any with the NSR and think it will be a whole lot closer to what other racers are running. I wanted to let everybody know that at such low clearance I personally think that unless every car has a piranha, those that do have an unfair advantage over those who don't.
Sincerely, David

David,
That Piranha 25k motor gets it great magnetic effect from the different magnets that is has. They are ceramic magnets. The motor also has ball bearings in it. Slot Car Corner has another new motor with ball bearings, it is a 22.5k motor. SCC new line of motors, called Predator, are available in multiple sizes. They make a 12k, 18k and 25k. Also make a 18k Slim-line with a longer shaft, so it will work in Scalextric cars.
